Northwest Conversions 24-Gallon Camper Van Wheel Well Water Tank (SP-C-24) Fitment:

Mercedes-Benz Sprinter:

First Generation (T1N) 2002-2006

Third Generation (VS30) 2019+

Second Generation (NCV3) 2008-2018

Ford Transit:

Fifth Generation: 2015+

Ford Transit van wheel wells are slightly smaller than the Sprinter so there is more room for insulation around the wheel wells.

Ram Promaster:

Second Generation: 2015+

Third Generation: 2019+

If you choose to use the Universal 20-Gallon Camper Van Wheel Well Water Tank (SP-R-20) in a Promaster, it needs to be elevated 3.5″ to fit the larger wheel wells of the Ram Promaster van.

How to Install Our Camper Van Water Tanks:

The first step is to always orient the water tank so that our logo, NW Conversions, is facing up, on the top of the tank. The top of the water tank will also always have a 1.5 inch water level sensor location or water fill port. All of the water tank ports are 1.5″ and .5″. The .5″ ports will be provided with plugs in them. Use a 3/8″ T-handle Allen key tool to remove the plugs. Reinstall the plugs in unwanted ports along with using plumber’s tape to seal the threads.

The 1.5″ ports have a membrane that is water tight. To remove this membrane use a 1 3/4″ hole saw that is slightly smaller than the threads to drill your desired 1.5″ ports out. Make sure to clean all loose plastic particles out of the tank before installing  the fittings. This is easiest to do with an air compressor or vacuum. Once again, use plumber’s tape or pipe sealant on all fittings.

How to Clean Our Camper Van Water Tanks:

Make sure you rinse the water tank before first use, as there can be plastic bits left in the tank from the manufacturing process.

Nomadic Supply Company recommends using our Lippert Floë Compressed Air Camper Van Fresh Water Flushing System throughout the year to keep your water system completely pristine. In addition to flushing your water system you can also use bleach or vinegar to clean our fresh water tanks, or you can one of our camper van fresh water tank cleaning solutions. To clean your tank with bleach or vinegar follow the instructions below.

Step 1: Drain the water tank completely

Step 2: Mix 4 oz bleach or vinegar with 1 1⁄2 gallons of hot water

Step 3: Pour bleach/vinegar solution into tank

Step 4: Fill tank with fresh water until its full

Step 5: Let sit for 12 hours

Step 6: Drain the water tank completely, refill with fresh water and drain completely again (you may need to repeat this rinse step a few times)

Camper Van Water Tank Venting:

Polyethylene camper van water tanks must be vented. These fresh water tanks are not designed to handle pressure or a vacuum. A vent is necessary because as the tank is filled or emptied of its liquid an equal proportion of air must be displaced simultaneously. Discharge of a water tank without a vent would cause a vacuum to occur. A generally accepted rule concerning vent size is that it should be the same size as the tank’s largest outlet.

It's a tank

So far I've only just installed it and have yet to use it or actually fill it. It did take up the space around the wheel so I don't have to build something to go around it. Instead of building another complicated box to fit over this wheel well, I fit this into the bottom of a cabinet I built over the tank which will hold our Biolite fire pit and some camp chairs. The bed frame will sit on top of that.
Connections on the tank are nice but only really need the fill port and one exit port. Plan to locate a valve to drain the tank off the low point near the sliding door. Back ports are sealed and won't be used. I cut an extra hole to install a level gauge and that went in fine. Plastic seems thick enough that I felt OK taping threads for M5 bolts. Flushed the tank to remove all the plastic bits when I was done, then added a bit of wool insulation to the underside that fits over the wheel well and stuck it in place.
So far so good. Key to me is to keep it simple with minimal plumbing an an easy way to drain it to keep the system from cracking and springing leaks from freezing.

Great camper van water tank!

I’ve had my tank installed for a few months now and it is working great. The threads on the ports are solid. The drain port is low enough so that I can park the van on a steep-ish hill and drain out almost all of the water when it is time to air it out.

Wheel well tank.

It is a great tank with multiple threaded inlets or outlets all are sealed minus a couple the are 3/4” threaded. By the way it is not 24 gallons. It is closer to 30plus gallons. You just cut them open if you want them patent. They **** in a male plug threaded to fit size. I have top fill. A 3/4 threaded hose fill and a 1/2” pex connected to my pump. Make sure to clean and drain before filling. I did not and shavings and leftovers from sealing the threaded inlets from factory plugged my pump.
