The Thule UpRide Roof Rack Mount Bike Rack (599000) fits all types of bikes, from mountain bikes to fat bikes. The Thule UpRide Roof Rack Mount Bike Rack is also foolproof to load and secure, all without having to remove your bike’s front wheel.

The Thule UpRide’s mechanism for holding the front wheel uses one hoop and a hook. When you’re ready to put your bicycle on, you adjust the Thule UpRide hook to match your wheel size, pulling the pin on the arm and moving the hook until the number that corresponds with your wheel size appears in the viewing window. With this done you will then push the hook arm forward until it stops. You can lift your bicycle onto the Thule UpRide at this point, and then roll it forward into the hook. Then you simply raise the hoop. If the hook is set to the right wheel size, the knob halfway down the hoop arm will snap into a catch on the hook arm and form an X. Pull the ratchet mechanism on the hoop arm until it’s tight against the tire, and you’re done.

The UpRide’s mounting complexity is itself an extra layer of security: It boasts an embarrassment of knobs and levers, and it’s not clear to a new user how they need to be turned and pulled—or in what order—to release the bike. The integrated cable lock is further deterrent, and the rack locks to the crossbars. To further secure against theft, the Thule UpRide Roof Rack Mount Bike Rack (599000) can be locked to the vehicle, and the bike can be locked to the bike rack with an integrated cable lock.
