Blue Smart IP22 12V 30A 1 Bank 120V Charger – Dry Mount

The Blue Smart IP22 Charger is the professional battery charger with built-in bluetooth. The Blue Smart IP22 Charger can be used on devices in your workshop and on motor vehicles, such as (classic) cars; motorbikes; boats and camper-vans.

Bluetooth Smart

The Blue Smart IP22 Charger is the wireless solution to monitor voltage and current, to change settings and to update the charger when new features become available.

High efficiency

With up to 94% efficiency, these chargers generate up to four times less heat when compared to the industry standard. And once the battery is fully charged, power consumption reduces to 0,5 Watt, some five to ten times better than the industry standard.

Adaptive 6-stage charge algorithm: test – bulk – absorption – recondition – float – storage

The Blue Smart Charger features a microprocessor-controlled ‘adaptive’ battery management. The adaptive feature will automatically optimize the charging process relative to the way the battery is being used.

Storage Mode: less maintenance and aging when the battery is not in use

The storage mode kicks in whenever the battery has not been subjected to discharge during 24 hours. In the storage mode float voltage is reduced to 2,2V/cell (13,2V for a 12V battery) to minimize gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week the voltage is raised back to the absorption level to ‘equalize’ the battery. This feature prevents stratification of the electrolyte and sulfation, a major cause of early battery failure.

Also charges Li-ion batteries

Li-ion batteries are charged with a simple bulk – absorption – float algorithm.

Fully discharged battery recovery function

Will initiate charging even if the battery has been discharged to zero volts. Will reconnect to a fully discharged Li-ion battery with internal disconnect function.

NIGHT and LOW setting

When in NIGHT or LOW mode, the output current is reduced to max. 50% of the nominal output and the charger will be totally noiseless. The NIGHT mode automatically ends after 8 hours. The LOW mode can be ended manually.

Protected against overheating

Output current will reduce as the temperature increases up to 50°C, but the Blue Smart Charger will not fail.

Eleven LEDs for status indication

Charge algorithm: TEST / BULK / ABSORPTION / RECONDITION / FLOAT / STORAGE / READY. MODE button to set: NORMAL (14,4V) / HIGH (14,7V) / RECONDITION / LI-ION.

Victron IP22 12VDC 30A charger working well so far

My IP22 charger has completed one charging cycle of a 200 Ah LiFePo4 battery with no functional issues. I monitored the charging cyle using the VictronConnect app on my iPhone. Seeing the exact charging voltage and current during the charging process is informative as a supplement to the basic LED light information on the IP22 itself. I opted not to change the charging parameters from the default LiFePo4 settings, although I did review the ‘Advanced’ then ‘Expert' parameters. (Note: As soon the VictronConnect app connected to the new IP22 it insisted on installing a firmware update to v3.42 while reporting the current firmware version as “none”).

I was mildly surprised that the VictronConnect app requires continual Bluetooth contact with the IP22 in order to display any information; it does not appear to store information from the last contact to display on its pages to make it easier to record that data at a distance from the IP22. I tried using the built-in option to send the “ChargeCycleHistory” to my computer, but the file I received only had column headers without the data for the charge cycle even though the VictronConnect app shows a completed charge cycle on the screen. I don’t know whether this is due to my error, a poor understanding of the user interface, or an actual flaw in the VictronConnect app at this time. (I gave the IP22 five stars with the expectation that I’ll figure out the history file transmission issue.)

To complete the electrical connection from the IP22 to the batteries I am charging I constructed a charging harness using two 5’ segments of 6 AWG wire and 5/16” crimped lugs sealed with 1/2” 3:1 adhesive shrink wrap. I trimmed/stripped insulation from the other ends of the 6 AWG wires to insert them into the IP22’s ****-clamp terminals. Although it was extra work/cost to build a charging harness compared to battery chargers with pre-attached clamps, the high charging current (30A) of the IP22 30A model would heat up the typical thin cables and clamps provided with lower current chargers for temporary connections. A permanent installation of the IP22 wouldn’t work well with clamp-on connections.

The IP22 30A 12VDC charger runs fairly warm/hot to the touch while charging at 30A; the built-in fan kicked in as an aid to cooling it. If I were mounting the charger in a permanent location I would take the heat into consideration with respect to airflow and the material I mounted the charger to/had surrounding it. I place the charger in a location that won’t be affected by its heat while using it as a portable charging device.

I did not try out the half-power “nighttime” charge setting as I’m not charging batteries in a location where what little noise the charger makes is an issue. If I were going to be sleeping next to it I might use that option.

It's great!

It's great so far. I run I plug this into an outlet in my camper when I have shore power and its powers all of my 12 v appliances in power supply mode. Easy to use. Takes a minutes or two after plugging it in to connect to it on the app, but no biggie - it does what it's supposed to and I'm happy with that. It arrived on time and was a pleasant shopping experience. Would recommend.
