When it comes to strength and weight, the Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo Swing Away Spare Tire Carrier from Nomadic Supply Company packs a powerful punch. With the same tow rating as its bigger siblings and the capacity to carry a 35-inch tire (on a mid-sized truck), the Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo is ready for whatever the adventure calls for.

The Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo Swing Away Spare Tire Carrier was designed to go lean and low on the next adventure while still being prepared. The Hitchgate Solo’s reduced weight is perfect for those looking to carry a 35-inch (on a mid-size vehicle) or smaller spare tire, and RotopaX fuel cans.

Not only is weight reduced, but so is the overall height of the horizontal support arm which sits 4″ lower than a Hitchgate Classic or MAX. By relocating the truck mount at the *same level* as the vehicle’s receiver hitch, the Solo is uniquely designed to accommodate vehicles that have a tight clearance between the rear hatch/door and the receiver (Ex: Sprinter, Renegade, Tahoe, Grand Cherokee). The Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo Swing Away Spare Tire Carrier is also an ideal spare tire carrier for a Subaru (see Fitment section below) and any vehicle where every pound counts.

The Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo Swing Away Spare Tire Carrier universally fits on almost all vehicles with a Class III/2″ hitch receiver. This swing-away, spare tire carrier mounts to any 2-inch, Class III hitch receiver and is perfect for SUVs, Jeeps, vans, and pickups. This tough tire carrier secures up to a 35-inch spare tire (on mid-sized vehicles) while maintaining ground clearance with minimal change in departure angles when driving off-road. Release a single latch pin and it opens wide for full access to the vehicle’s cargo space. The Hitchgate Solo is tow-rated at 7,500 lbs (max trailer weight) and 750 lbs (tongue weight). *These limits may be more than your vehicle’s capacity. ALWAYS stay within the limits of your vehicle tow/tongue ratings)* The tire carrier is rated for 150lbs of total weight.

Like all Wilco Offroad products, the Hitchgate Solo is proudly built in Southern California and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo Swing Away Spare Tire Carrier Models:

  • Hitchgate Solo Standard UHG32130 sits at hitch height and is 25″ wide on the support arm. If your hitch is near your rear hatch, probably a good choice.
  • Hitchgate Solo *High Clearance*  UHG33187 is a Solo Standard with the horizontal support arm moved 4″ higher. Use this if your hitch is under your bumper/body.
  • Hitchgate SoloXL UHG32206 is a mirror image of the Solo but is 5″ wider. This allows full-size vehicles to carry up to a 35″ tire + and allows vans like the Mercedes Sprinter to open their doors past 90 degrees.

Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo Swing Away Spare Tire Carrier Fitment:

  • Solo Standard (UHG32130): 53lbs

Best for midsize vehicles where the bumper is molded around the hitch. (ex. Current body style Grand Cherokees). Subaru Outback and Crosstrek. Almost all compact and mid-sized trucks, SUVs, and cars with tires up to 35″. Full-sized trucks, SUVs, and cars with tires smaller than 33″.  [25″ wide from hitch to pivot bolt, 3.5″ minimum depth from 1st hitch pin to the back of support arm. 4.5″ to the next hitch pinhole. Solo sits at hitch height, rising only 2.5″ above the receiver.]

  • Solo High Clearance (UHG33187) 54lbs

Most popular product. Great for Midsize vehicles up to 35”(4Runners, Tacoma’s, Colorado’s, Subaru’s) and Full-Size up to 35”(Silverado’s, Dodge Ram, Ford F150, F250, Sequoias, Etc.)Almost all compact and mid-sized trucks, SUVs, and cars with tires up to 35″. Full-sized trucks, SUVs, and cars with tires smaller than 33″. [25″ wide from hitch to pivot bolt, 3.5″ minimum depth from 1st hitch pin to the back of support arm. 4.5″ to the next hitch pinhole. Solo High Clearance sits 4″ above hitch height, rising 6.5″ above the receiver.]

  • Solo XL (UHG32206) 56lbs

This is the spare tire carrier that is specifically designed for Mercedes Sprinters, Ram Promasters, and Ford Transits. Also works on full-size vehicles up to 35”. Also, this is the only Hitchgate that works for the Land Cruiser. Full-sized trucks, SUVs, and cars with tires larger than 35″ OR those who need the tire to swing further away from the vehicle. [ 30″ wide from hitch to pivot bolt, 3.5″ minimum depth from 1st hitch pin to the back of support arm. 4.5″ to the next hitch pinhole. SoloXL sits at hitch height, rising only 2.5″ above the receiver.]

  • For the Ram Promaster 2500 & 3500:

Would recommend the Hitchgate Solo XL (UHG32206) (UHG32206-H). It swings out 180 degrees so you can fully open your rear doors. If it’s a dually, you will need a wheel spacer.

  • Fitment Calculator

Multiply the width of the Solo you’re interested in by 2, then subtract half the diameter of your tire…the sum will give you an estimate of how far away your tire will sit from your hitch and help you choose the Solo that’s right for your vehicle.

Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo Swing Away Spare Tire Carrier

Wilco Offroad Hitchgate Solo Swing Away Spare Tire Carrier Important to Know:

  • Wheels with a +45 Positive offset or greater offset may require a wheel spacer
  • Ford Transit (AWD) 6X180 Lug pattern – Only two lugs can be used to mount the tire. (Dually) Needs 2” Spacer WSDFT
  • WJ Jeep Grand Cherokee (1999-2004), hitch is closed off – cannot fit
  • Subaru Outbacks with receded factory hitch – If hitch is flush with bumper, it fits.
  • Subaru Crosstrek – Small wheel hub bolt pattern 5×100 may require drilling of tire mount plate.
  • Vehicles with high-clearance rear bumper/hitches(ex. A Tacoma with a Pelfreybuilt, CBI, or C4 Fab Rear Bumper)
  • Oversize Aftermarket Rear Bumpers – can hang out over the hitch too far
  • Bumpers with D-Ring Shackle mounts – can prevent hitchgate from fully inserting
  • Mercedes Sprinter Dually Rear Axle – needs separate wheel Spacer (6×205) Lug Pattern part# MBWSK24877
  • Land Cruisers – Rear clamshell door, only Solo XL works (UHG32206)
  • Honda Element Camper Vans – Hitch too receded
  • Transit Connect – Hitch too receded
  • Land Rovers – Several hitch issues, make sure customer measures before purchase. Use “Curt” hitch.
  • Range Rover Sport – Hitch too receded
  • Colorado ZR2 Bison 2019+ – Tow hooks on the bumper hit Base bar
  • Ford Ranger 2019+ – Tailgate Logo, Use Standard
  • Toyota Sienna – Hitch too receded
  • Dodge Caravan – Hitch too receded
  • Mercedes GLE – Hitch too receded
  • Zero offset or shallow offset (high positive offset) wheels may require an additional wheel spacer.
  • When properly installed, the Solo will sit level with inside of the hitch…if your bumpers arc upward at the corners, the Solo may appear not to follow those body lines as it is mated up to the hitch rather than the bumper. This is not a warranty situation.
  • Solo WILL interfere with factory back-up sensors and/or back-up camera. The camera will still have *some* visibility through your wheel and the ground below.
  • 4.5″ of clearance is required from center of hitch pin hole rearward for it to be compliant with wedge-lock system. You may need to relocate spare tire from underneath or modify to gain the necessary clearance.
  • FORD RANGER OWNERS(4th Generation, 2019+ Up): Due to the shape of the Ford Badge on the rear tailgate, the Hitchgate Solo High-Clearance will not work as the badge will come in contact when the tailgate is lowered. Also, due to the shape of the OEM hitch, some modifications may have to be made to fully install the hitchgate.
  • SUBARU OWNERS: Due to the small hub diameter, some models will require a hole drilled into the wheel plate to allow for a 3rd Lug Bolt to be installed
  • SUBARU CROSSTREK: If you’re planning on using a Torklift Eco Invisi Hitch, the Solo will *not* work with the stock exhaust system AND body trimming may be required to gain access to hitch pin holes.
  • MERCEDES SPRINTER VANS WITH DUALLY REAR AXLES: You will need to purchase a wheel adapter plate.
  • VEHICLES WITH CLAMSHELL REAR DOORS(LAND CRUISERS, LEXUS LX SERIES, ETC): The Hitchgate Solo High-Clearance DOES NOT work with these vehicles. The lower tailgate portion will come in contact with the base of the Hitchgate due to the low distance between the hitch and tailgate. We recommend the Hitchgate Solo XL, but we highly recommend double checking your measurements before ordering, or feel free to give us a call and we are happy to help.
  • FORD TRANSIT: The Hitchgate Solo XL (UHG32206) is the only model you can use. Nomadic Supply Company recommends the Hitchgate Solo XL (UHG32206) (UHG32206-H). It swings out 180 degrees so you can fully open your rear doors. Important: Do you have a Class III 2” hitch receiver? Is your hitch receiver at least flush with the edge of your rear bumper, not receded? You will need 4.5” from mid-pinhole of your hitch receiver towards the front of your vehicle for our wedge lock.

Problem Solved

The Wilco Swing Gate Hitch spare tire carrier solved a problem I had. I wanted to have a full-sized spare tire, but on my Subie Crosstrek, one would not fit inside the hatch area. I tried mounting on a roof basket, but the wind noise and loss of MPG was prohibitive. Although expensive, this solved that problem nicely. It has worked as advertised an I look forward to exploiting the saved space inside when I take out the doughnut spare.
I also purchased the water/gas can adapters, but have not installed them yet.
My only complaint, (and why I gave it only 4-Stars), is that the top-central lug-bolt bracket was bent when I received it. I was able to straighten it, but it is still not perfecting aligned.
Shipping was as promised.
I would recommend this product.
