How to Install Our Camper Van Water Tanks:
The first step is to always orient the water tank so that our logo, NW Conversions, is facing up, on the top of the tank. The top of the water tank will also always have a 1.5-inch water level sensor location or water fill port. All of the water tank ports are 1.5″ and .5″. The .5″ ports will be provided with plugs in them. Use a 3/8″ T-handle Allen key tool to remove the plugs. Reinstall the plugs in unwanted ports along with using the plumber’s tape to seal the threads.
The 1.5″ ports have a membrane that is water-tight. To remove this membrane use a 1 3/4″ hole saw that is slightly smaller than the threads to drill your desired 1.5″ ports out. Make sure to clean all loose plastic particles out of the tank before installing the fittings. This is easiest to do with an air compressor or vacuum. Once again, use the plumber’s tape or pipe sealant on all fittings.
How to Clean Our Camper Van Water Tanks:
Make sure you rinse the water tank before first use, as there can be plastic bits left in the tank from the manufacturing process.
Nomadic Supply Company recommends using our Lippert Floë Compressed Air Camper Van Fresh Water Flushing System throughout the year to keep your water system completely pristine. In addition to flushing your water system you can also use bleach or vinegar to clean our fresh water tanks, or you can one of our camper van fresh water tank cleaning solutions. To clean your tank with bleach or vinegar follow the instructions below.
Step 1: Drain the water tank completely
Step 2: Mix 4 oz bleach or vinegar with 1 1⁄2 gallons of hot water
Step 3: Pour bleach/vinegar solution into tank
Step 4: Fill tank with fresh water until its full
Step 5: Let sit for 12 hours
Step 6: Drain the water tank completely, refill with fresh water and drain completely again (you may need to repeat this rinse step a few times)
Camper Van Water Tank Venting:
Polyethylene camper van water tanks must be vented. These fresh water tanks are not designed to handle pressure or a vacuum. A vent is necessary because as the tank is filled or emptied of its liquid an equal proportion of air must be displaced simultaneously. Discharge of a water tank without a vent would cause a vacuum to occur. A generally accepted rule concerning vent size is that it should be the same size as the tank’s largest outlet.
