The S&B Filters Air Intake Snorkel for 2023+ Mercedes Sprinter Vans may look cool, but it also serves some very important functions. The main purpose of an air intake snorkel is to access clean air. Most people incorrectly assume that a snorkel is for water crossings, as it prevents water from flooding through the vehicle’s airbox and into the engine; but that’s not what they are for. A properly installed snorkel protects your engine from the dust that would normally enter the air intake from under the vehicle. By moving the intake above, the dust level is decreased.
It is important to note that installing any snorkel does not give your off-road vehicle the ability to be underwater for long periods of time. Manufacturers not only set wading and intake depths based on which components are most likely to be damaged in a water crossing but also take into account how well-sealed the cabin is from water intrusion.
