Why build an Agile Sprinter Wheel?

It was a necessity! We build the next generation of Mercedes Sprinter vans that can carry more and go farther than ever before. These vans are not your parent’s old E Series with a mattress in the back, they are fully self-contained go-anywhere on/off-road vehicles.  The existing wheel offerings did not include multiple valve stems for rapid inflation/deflation, or built for intended off road use.

What is the best wheel manufacturing process that produces the highest quality, most durable part at a reasonable price?

A Flow Formed Forged wheel is cast like most alloy wheels built today but with a thick V-shaped barrel. The raw wheel casting is moved to the Flow Forming machine to forge and press the barrel width while turning.  This combination of heat and pressure aligns the molecules in the barrel, resulting in a thinner, stronger, and more dense barrel section of the wheel.  The stronger material allows the barrel to be less thick than a traditional cast wheel but hold higher strength and durability.  True forged wheels have a higher tensile strength and can be lighter than a flow formed wheel but are unattainable for most consumers because of their high price and custom order requirement.  The best balance of repeatable durable light, but very strong wheels are flow formed as found on most new performance vehicles sold. The difference is that Agile applied this technology to van applications with ideal fitments for vehicles with aftermarket suspension purpose built for off-road driving conditions.

What is the maximum achievable load based on real-world wheel and tire combo application?

We reached out to the tire experts for this part of the equation. We found the highest load-rated 33” tall tire available today for a 17×8.0 wheel. The maximum tire found was a 285/70R17 F Load Range at 95psi with a max load of 4215 LBS. Other tires had a heavier load but were not practical for the van application because they were much larger than what will fit on modern vans. After additional research, we found the tire/wheel load rating of 4,215 LBS would be the strongest in market and significantly stronger than the rear axle rating in the Sprinter.

What is the best tire size for each application?

That depends on the extent of your completed, to-be-completed modification. Typical 4X4 Sprinter vans will have upgraded to LT285/75R17 mounted on an Agile Off-Road Overlander HD 17×8.0, +32mm offset wheel, with the Agile Offroad Ride Improvement Package for Mercedes Sprinter 2500 4×4 Vans.

Is a spacer required for Sprinter oversized brake packages?

Using our Agile Offroad Alcon Big Brake Upgrade for Mercedes Sprinter Vans, the Agile Offroad Overlander HD Wheels for Mercedes Sprinter Vans do not require spacers.

Will you have issues with the Sprinter sliding door clearing the tire/wheel?

The Agile Offroad Overlander HD Wheels for Mercedes Sprinter Vans are built as a 17×8.0 with a +32mm offset mounted on an LT285/75R17 install without any sliding door clearance issues.

Why does this Sprinter wheel come with two valve-stem holes?

Each valve stem is positioned behind the lip face to protect it from damage when off-roading. Position one is for the Apex RPV Fast Deflating Valve Stem, which holds the TPMS sensor. Position two can have the RIV (Rapid Inflation Valve), a massive second valve stem used for quick inflation.  Two valves are common in the race community because teams generally inflate/deflate from one side of the wheel but run a constant tire pressure gauge on the opposite valve to avoid over/under inflation.
